THE QURAN
The Funeral prayer is performed while standing. It can be
performed by one person. It is not however performed in the case
of a person who dies fighting in the way of God.
The Traveller's Prayer (Salat al-Musafir):
God allows the
Muslim to shorten and combine prayers together. He can shorten
each of the Noon, Afternoon and Evening prayers by performing
two rak'as for each. He, however, cannot shorten the Early
Morning and Sunset prayers.
The Muslim is also permitted in case of necessity to combine
between the Noon and Afternoon prayers. He can perform either
at noon or in the afternoon. The same applies to the Sunset and
Evening prayers.
5. Additional Prayers
Additional prayers (or
sunna
) are not enjoined. They are
performed as an act of devotion and for gaining Allah's favour. In
performing them, the Muslims also follow the example of their
Prophet.
Following is a list of the additional prayers which precede or
follow the regular ones.
1. Two
rak'as
preceding the EarlyMorning prayer.
2. Two
rak'as
preceding the Noon prayer and two following it.
3. Four
rak'as
preceding the Afternoon prayer.
4. Two
rak'as
following the Sunset prayer.
