of the prayer, however, is prohibited except in case of sickness or
fear of incurring harm to one's self.
The required prayers are the five daily ones including the Friday
prayer:
1. Early Morning prayer:
Two
rak'as
(bowing and kneeling).
Its period is between dawn and sunrise.
2. Noon prayer:
Four
rak'as
, between noon and mid-afternoon.
3. Afternoon prayer:
Four
rak'as
between the time when the
shadow begins to become equal to it cause and sunset.
4. Sunset prayer:
Three
rak'as,
between sunset and early
evening.
5.
Evening prayer:
Four
rak'as
from disappearance of twilight
until dawn.
6. Friday prayer:
Two
rak'as
to be performed following the
sermon. It has to be performed in congregation in a mosque.
Should those conditions be unmet, then it has to be replaced by
midday (noon) prayer.
Funeral Prayer:
A prayer for the dead is enjoined. It consists
of expression of intention (
niyya
) and four
takbira
(Allah is
Great). First
takbira
is followed by reading
al-Fatiha
(the
Opening Sura of the Quran); the second is followed by invoking
prayer for the Prophet; the third is followed by a prayer for the
dead; and the fourth is followed by a prayer for one's self and all
Muslims. The whole prayer is ended with
al-Slam
.
