revelations and slew His prophets unjustly; and because they were
rebels and transgressors.
Yet they are not all alike. There are among the People of the Book
some upright men who all night long recite the revelations ofAllah and
pray; who believe in Allah and the Last Day; who enjoin justice and
forbid evil and vie with each other in good works. These are righteous
men: whatever good they do, shall not be denied them.Allah knows the
righteous.
As for the unbelievers, neither their riches nor their children shall in
the least protect them fromAllah. They are the people of the Fire, and
there they shall remain forever. The wealth they spend in this world is
like a freezing wind that smites the harvest of men who have wronged
themselves, laying them waste. Allah has not wronged them; but they
wrong themselves.
Believers, do not make friends with any men other than your own
people. They will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing
but your ruin. Their hatred is clear fromwhat they say, but more violent
is the hatredwhich their breasts conceal.
We havemade plain to youOur revelations, if you only understand.
See how you love them and they do not love you. You believe in the
entire Book.
When they meet you they say: 'We, too, are believers.' But when
alone, they bite their finger-tips with rage. Say: 'Perish in your rage!
Allah has knowledge of what is in your chests.'
When you are blessed with good fortune, they grieve: but when evil
