They said: 'Then bring him here in sight of all the people, that they
may act as witnesses.'
'Ibrahim,' they said, 'was it youwho did this to our deities?
'No,' he replied. 'It was their chief who smote them. Ask them, if
they can speak.'
Thereupon they turned to themselves and said (to each other):
'Surely you are the ones in the wrong.'
But then they were confounded (and said to Ibrahim): 'You know
they cannot speak.'
He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can
neither help nor harm you? Shame on you and on that you worship!
Have you no sense? '
They said: 'Burn him and avenge your gods, if you are going to do
anything! ‘
'Fire,'We said, 'be coolness and safety for Ibrahim.’
They sought to make a plan against him, but we made them the
greater losers.We delivered him and Lut, and brought them to the land
whichWe had blessed for all mankind.
We gave him Ishaq, and then Yaqub (for a grandson); and We made
each a righteous man.We ordained them leaders to guide at Our behest
and enjoined on them charity, prayer and almsgiving. They served
(none but) Ourself.
To Lut, We gave judgement and knowledge and delivered him from
the town which wrought abomination; for truly they were people of
iniquity and evil. We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous
