By the Book which makes plain (right and wrong),We
H
have revealed the Quran in the Arabic tongue that you may
understand. It is in
the Mother Book with Us, sublime and full
of wisdom.
Should We ignore you by withholding Our Message because you
are a transgressing people? How many a prophet did We send forth to
the ancients: no prophet came to them but they scoffed at him. We
utterly destroyedmightier (nations) than these.
And the story of the destruction (of the ancients) has been told. Yet,

if you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely
answer: 'TheAlmighty, theAll—knowing, created them.’
(It is He) who has made the earth a resting—place for you andmade
in it routes for you that you may find your way; who sends down water
from the sky in due measure and thereby quickens the dead land—even
thus you shall be restored to life; who has created all living things in
pairs and made for you the ships and beasts on which you ride, so that
you mount upon their backs, and as you sit firm on them you may recall
the goodness of your Lord and say: 'Glory to Him who has subjected
these to us. But for Himwe could never have accomplished this. To our
Lordwe shall all return.’
Yet they assign to Him some of His servants! Surely man is
monstrously ungrateful. WouldAllah choose daughters from those He
has created for Himself and choose sons for you?
Yet when the birth of one of those (daughters) they attribute to the
Merciful is announced to one of them, his face darkens and he is filled
