caused him to refuse suck until (his sister) said to them: 'Shall I direct
you to a family who will bring him up for you and take good care of
him?'
Thus we restored him to his mother, so that she might rejoice in him
and grieve no more, and that she might know thatAllah's promise was
true.Yet most men are not aware of this.
And when he had reached maturity and became full-grown. We
bestowed on him wisdom and knowledge. Thus We reward the
righteous.
And he entered the town unnoticed by the people and found two men
fighting, the one of his own party, the other an enemy. The man of his
party appealed for his help against his enemy, so that Musa struck him
with his fist and killed him. 'This is the work of Satan,' said Musa. 'He
is the sworn enemy of man and seeks to lead him astray. Forgive me,
Lord, for I have sinned against my soul.'
And Allah forgave him; for He is the Forgiving One, the Merciful.
He said: 'By the favour You have shown me, Lord, I vow that I will
never lend a helping hand to a wrong-doer.'
Next morning, as he was walking in the town in fear and caution, the
man he had helped the day before cried out to him again for help.
'Clearly,' saidMusa, 'you are truly a quarrelsomeman.'
And when Musa was about to seize him who was the enemy of both
of them, he said: 'Musa, would you kill me as you killed that person
yesterday. You are surely seeking to be a tyrant in this land, not an
upright man.'
