them an apostle of their own people who shall declare to them your
revelations and instruct them in the Book and in wisdom and purify
themof sin.You are theMighty, theWise one.'
Who but a foolish man would forsake the faith of Ibrahim?We chose
him in this world, and in the world to come he shall dwell among the
righteous. When his Lord said to him: 'Submit,' he answered: 'I have
submitted to the Lord of theWorlds.'
Ibrahim enjoined the same on his children, and so didYaqub, saying:
'My children,Allah has chosen for you the true faith. Do not depart this
life except as menwho have submitted toHim.'
Or were you present when death came to Yaqub? He said to his
children: 'What will you worship when I am gone? ' They replied: 'We
will worship your God and the God of your forefathers Ibrahim and
Ismail and Ishaq: the One God. ToHim, we will surrender ourselves.'
That was a nation which has passed away. Theirs is what they earned,
and yours what you have earned. You shall not be questioned about
what they did.
They say: 'Accept the Jewish or the Christian faith of and you shall be
rightly guided.'
Say: 'By no means! We believe in the faith of Ibrahim, the upright
one. He was no polytheist.'
Say: 'We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us, and in
what was revealed to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, and the tribes; to
Musa and Isa and the other prophets from their lord. We make no
distinction between any of them, and to Allah we have surrendered
