on the rock. None but Satan made me forget to mention this. The fish
made its way into the sea in amiraculous fashion.'
'This is what we have been seeking,' said Musa. They went back the
way they came and found one of Our servants to whom We had
vouchsafed Our mercy and whomWe had endowed with knowledge of
Our own. Musa said to him: 'May I follow you so that you may teach
me of the good you have been taught?'
'You will not bear with me,' replied the other. 'For how can you bear
with that which is beyond your knowledge? '
Musa said: 'If Allah wills, you shall find me patient: I shall not in
anything disobey you.'
He said: 'If you are bent on following me, you must ask no question
about anything till I myself speak to you concerning it.'
So the two set forth, but as soon as they embarked, he bored a hole in
the bottomof the ship.
'A strange thing you have done!' exclaimed Musa. 'Is it to drown her
passengers that you have bored a hole in it?'
'Did I not tell you,' he replied, 'that youwould not bear withme?'
Musa said: 'Blame me not for what I forgot, nor be hard on me for
what I did.'
They journeyed on until when they fell in with a certain youth;
Musa's companion slew him. Musa said: Have you killed an innocent
person who had not killed another? Surely you have committed a
wicked crime.’
'Did I not tell you,'
he replied, 'that youwould not bear withme?'
