Then there shall follow seven hard years which will consume all but
little of that which you have stored. Then there will come a year of
abundant rain, inwhich the people will press the grape.'
The king said: 'Bring this man beforeme.'
But when the king's envoy came to him, he said: 'Go back to your
master and ask him about the women who cut their hands. My Lord
knows their cunning.'
He said to the women: 'What made you seek to enticeYusuf? '
'Allah forbid! ' they replied. 'We knowno evil of him.'
'Now the truthmust come to light,' said the Prince's wife. 'It was I who
sought to seduce him. He has told the truth.'
'From this,' (said Yusuf), '(my lord) will know that I did not betray
him in his absence, and that Allah does not guide the work of the
treacherous. Not that I am free from sin: man's soul often commands
evil, except him to whom Allah has shown mercy. My Lord is
Forgiving, Merciful.'
The king said: 'Bring himbeforeme. I will choose him for myself.'
And when he had spoken with him the king said: 'You shall
henceforth dwell with us, honoured and trusted.'
He said: 'Give me charge of the treasures of the realm. I am a good
keeper who knows.'
Thus We established Yusuf in the land to dwell wherever he liked.
We bestow Our mercy on whomWe will, and never deny the righteous
their reward. Better is the reward of the life to come for those who
believe inAllah and keep fromevil.
