declare: 'This is nothing but plain magic.' And if We put off their
punishment till an appointed time, they ask: 'Why is it delayed? '
Now surely on the day when it overtakes them, they shall not escape
it.And theywill be encompassed by that at which they scoffed.
If We show man Our mercy and then withhold it from him, he yields
to despair and becomes ungrateful. And if after adversity We bestow
favours upon him, he says: 'Gone are my sorrows from me,' and grows
jubilant and boastful.
Except those who are steadfast and do good works. They shall have
forgiveness and a rich reward.
You may chance to omit a part of that which is revealed to you and be
distressed when they say: 'Why has no treasure been sent down to him?
Why has no angel come with him? '
You are only a warner. Allah is the guardian of all things. Or if they

say: 'He has invented it himself,' say to them: 'Produce ten invented
chapters like it. Call on whom you will of those besides Him, if what
you say be true. But if they fail you, know that it is revealedwithAllah's
knowledge, and that there is no god but Him. Will you then accept
Islam? '
Those that desire the life of this world with all its frippery shall be
rewarded for their deeds in their own lifetime: they will not suffer
any loss. These are the men who in the world to come will have
nothing but the Fire. Vain is what they did in it and fruitless are their
works.
