Him. Then He turned to them in mercy, so that they might repent.Allah
is the ForgivingOne, theMerciful.
O believers, have fear of Allah and stand with the truthful. No cause
have the people of Madinah and the desert Arabs who dwell around
them to stay behind Allah's Apostle or to prefer their lives to his; for
they are afflicted neither by thirst nor by hunger nor by toil on account
of the cause of Allah, nor do they take a step which may provoke the
unbelievers, nor do they do any harm to an enemy, but shall be counted
as a good deed in the sight ofAllah: He will not deny the righteous their
recompense. Each sum they give, be it small or large, and each journey
they undertake, shall be noted down, so thatAllahmay reward them for
their noblest deeds.
It is not right that all the faithful should go (to war) at once. Some of
them only should, and some should stay behind to instruct themselves
in religion and admonish the others when they return, so that they may
take heed.
O believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Let
them find firmness in you. Know thatAllah is with the righteous.
Whenever a Sura is revealed, some of them ask: 'Which of you has it
strengthened in faith? ' It will surely increase the faith of the believers
and give them joy.As for those whose hearts are diseased, it will add to
their disbelief so that they shall die unbelievers.
Do they not see how every year they were tried once or twice? Yet
they neither repent nor take warning. Whenever a Sura is revealed,
they glance at each other, asking: 'Is any one watching?
