the palm and seed-produce with various fruits and the olive and
pomegranates alike and different. Eat of its fruit when it bears fruit and
pay what is due of them upon the harvest day. But do not be prodigal;
Allah does not love the prodigal.
And of the cattle, some are for carrying burdens and others for
slaughter. Eat of that whichAllah has given you and do not walk in the
devil's footsteps; he is your sworn enemy.
(He has given you) eight kinds of livestock. (Take first) a pair of
sheep and a pair of goats. Say: 'Of these, has He forbidden you the
males, the females, or their offspring? Answer me, if you are men of
truth.' Then a pair of camels and a pair of cattle. Say: 'Of these, has He
forbidden you the males, the females, or their offspring? Were you
present whenAllah gave you these commandments?'
Who is more wicked than the man who, in his ignorance, invents a lie
aboutAllah tomislead others?Allah does not guide the wrongdoers.
Say: 'I find nothing in what has been revealed to me that forbids men
to eat of any food except carrion, running blood, and the flesh of swine-
for these are unclean-and what has been profanely slaughtered to gods
other thanAllah. But whoever is constrained to eat of any of these, not
intending to sin or transgress, then your Lord is Forgiving, Merciful?
We forbade the Jews all (animals) with undivided hoofs and the fat of
sheep and oxen, except what is on their backs and intestines and what is
mixed with their bones. Such is the penalty with which We rewarded
them for their misdeeds.
What We say is true. If they disbelieve in you, say: 'Your Lord has an
